What is a phablet / Which are the big smartphones?

All smartphones listed in this ranking have a display bigger than 5.7 inches in a 16:9 format or bigger than 6.1 inches in a 18:9 format. Common tablets start with a size of 7 to 8 inches. Unfortunately, the screen diagonal can no longer be compared to the actual size of the smartphone since the trend towards full-screen smartphones still continues. This can be seen, for example, in the comparison between OnePlus 6 and iPhone 8 Plus: although the OnePlus 6 has a much larger display, it is still a more compact device.

Model: Size in mm: length x width
Front size: Display in inches: Format: Display size:
OnePlus 6 155,7 75,4 117cm² 6,28 19:9 98,4cm²
iPhone 8 Plus 158 78 122cm² 5,5 16:9 83,6cm²
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 174 88 153cm² 6,4 16:9 114,3cm²
Xiaomi Mi Max 3 176 87,5 154cm² 6,9 18:9 122,9cm²
Vivo Nex 162 77 125cm² 6,59 19:9 107,3cm²

For a long time the 16:9 format was standard for smartphone displays and all mobile phones with a certain inch-size were about the same size. With the new 18:9 format and the slimmer display edges, you now have to rethink. We are therefore interested in the width of a device, the surface of the housing and the display. The length of a smartphone plays a less important role in its operation and manageability.

A phablet is a combination of a phone and a tablet. However, mostly those devices can hardly be handled with a single hand – but it carries other advantages: The huge displays of the Chinese phones are perfectly suited for reading texts, surfing the internet and watching YouTube videos or movies. The phablets in this ranking are the most popular and best-selling devices from China. Concerning the shops that sell Chinese phones, we only chose the most established ones with nearly perfect rating. In the ranking, we tried to include phablets with different hardware equipment as well as devices from different price ranges so that anybody can find the right phone for them. The list includes the most up-to-date high-end smartphones (top) as well as the middle-class price segment and low-budget phones.

A classic among the Phablets from China is the Xiaomi Mi Max – series! Here you get a really big display. In addition, there are also a number of devices that master the balancing act between everyday use and the largest possible display: the OnePlus 6 can be classified into both categories if you wish. Here the housing is still “small” or the space is used well (screen-to-body ratio), but the display is so large that it has a phablet character. In our ranking it represents exactly the boundary between medium and large.

In this list, you find the best-selling phones/phablets from China with an extraordinary display/body size. The ranking contains the most popular China smartphones. All of the shops listed in our price comparison are respectable and trustworthy online shops, which are mainly rated positively online.
